Description

Antimicrobial Stewardship (AMS) initiatives in long-term care homes (LTCH) rarely involves support workers (SW) in decision-making roles, yet rely on them to ensure infection prevention and control (IPC) best practices are carried out, and to provide the best care for residents. Support workers are heavily underrepresented in research on AMS and IPC, particularly in the LTCH setting. The Antimicrobial Resistance Task Force share findings on the perspectives and barriers from the first ever survey illuminating the experience of SWs in LTCHs across Canada. Our presenters dive into the data and lives of SWs and discuss the implications for AMS in the LTCH setting.
