Developing a Competency Framework for all Staff Roles in an Infection Prevention and Control program

IPAC Canada Members can now receive an education credit towards their CIC® recertification by attending IPAC Canada educational webinars.

This is to comply with recertification requirements of the Certification Board of Infection Control (CBIC). CBIC has approved the use of a generic certificate of completion which will be available for download at the end of the webinar.

Webinar Evaluation for Credit

Description

The webinar looks at the importance of competencies for IPAC staff and describes the Alberta Health Services (AHS) IPAC program framework for all staff roles in the program. The webinar is based on the article Developing a Competency Framework for all Staff Roles in an Infection Prevention and Control Program (CJIC, March 2022) which is the recipient of the 2022 IPAC Canada Editorial Award.

KATHRYN (KATHY) BUSH’s first career was in microbiology – in research, the clinical lab and as a tech rep for a diagnostics company. In 2003 she completed a Masters in Healthcare Epidemiology from the University of Calgary and then moved into infection prevention and control: starting as an infection control professional, then an epidemiologist and now as the Director of the Surveillance and Standards team for the Alberta Health Services (AHS) IPAC program. Kathy’s interest in IPAC program competencies comes from her experience in supporting her team in their professional development goals.

DR. GWYNETH MEYERS currently is the Senior Education Consultant for Infection Prevention and Control Program, Alberta Health Services (AHS). She has a BSc in Cellular and Microbiology, an MSc in Epidemiology and Healthcare Research and PhD in Education Technology and the Learning Sciences. In 2018 she was a finalist for the  Canadian Association for Graduate Studies Distinguished Dissertation Award and  also received the CJIC Editorial Award for a series of papers on her research.  In 2022 IPAC Canada recognized her with the Champion of Infection Prevention and Control Award in acknowledgement and appreciation of her lifetime achievement in infection prevention and control. Most recently Gwyneth chaired the IPAC Canada HCW Core Competency Review Committee and was a member of the IPAC Canada ICP Core Competency Review Committee.
