IPAC Canada offers a unique, coast-to-coast network that connects professionals from Vancouver to Prince Edward Island—a level of collaboration I cannot imagine in any other profession. This network has allowed me to share challenges and successes, particularly during the pandemic in long-term care and throughout my 20 years in acute care. Through conferences, webinars, and chapter activities, I have had access to expert forums and evidence-based resources that keep me current in a rapidly evolving field. These opportunities have strengthened my knowledge, boosted morale, and provided a sense of community in a demanding profession.
IPAC Canada has opened doors to new ideas, innovative methods, and emerging best practices that have shaped my approach to infection prevention and control. The ability to learn from colleagues across Canada and exchange insights has been invaluable. I’ve built lasting professional relationships—some dating back over 20 years—that continue to provide support and shared expertise. These connections have broadened my perspective and inspired strategies and challenged my assumptions that improve both local and national practices.
Serving as a Chapter President, Education Chair, and now Director of Education for IPAC Canada has given me unique insight into the diverse challenges and solutions across the country. These leadership roles have strengthened my ability to translate knowledge into actionable guidance, both at the facility level and now in shaping national practice. This network and resources provided by IPAC Canada have been heart of infection prevention and control in Canada.
The learning and leadership opportunities through IPAC Canada have had a profound impact on my career.. Personally, these roles have expanded my perspective, honed my leadership skills, and reinforced the importance of collaboration. IPAC Canada has not only supported my growth but also enabled me to help shape the future of infection prevention and control in Canada—while maintaining lifelong connections with colleagues I first met two over decades ago.
