The following information has been received from the Certification Board of Infection Control and Epidemiology regarding the new a-ICP designation, effective January 1, 2020:
Beginning in 2020, CBIC will be rolling out a new entry-level certification opportunity. Unlike the CIC®, there are no experience or job-specific requirements necessary to apply for the Associate – Infection Prevention & Control (a-IPC) entry-level certification examination. The purpose of this exam is to verify initial readiness to practice infection prevention in a healthcare setting.
Before the a-IPC is officially released, CBIC requires a minimum of 100 interested candidates to take a beta test version of the a-IPC. The first 100 candidates to sign up will receive a $100 discount off of the regular $295 price. The a-IPC will be valid for three years, at which point candidates interested in maintaining certification would need to pursue the CIC®. Candidates who successfully pass the a-IPC examination may use the a-IPC credential throughout the 3-year period.
Beta test candidates will be notified shortly after applying. The exam itself must be completed by January 31, 2020. Candidate score reports will then be available in the spring of 2020.
Why the a-IPC?
- You don’t meet the eligibility requirements for the CIC® examination
- You are interested in pursuing a career in infection prevention and control, or learning more about infection prevention and control
- There are no experience or job-specific requirements to apply
- It’s the perfect stepping stone to build a candidate’s foundational knowledge, interest and dedication to the field of infection prevention and control
Please visit the a-IPC FAQ page on the CBIC website to address any questions you may have. If you are interested in applying for the beta test, or know someone who might be, please complete this sign-up form indicating your name and contact information so that CBIC can contact you with more details in the coming weeks.
Thank you in advance for being an important part of this process!
