  • Penicillin Shortage: In April 2016, the Public Health Agency of Canada (PHAC) was made aware of a national shortage of benzathine penicillin G (Bicillin L-A). Pfizer, the sole Canadian supplier of Bicillin, reported that the shortage is due to a manufacturing issue and the estimated resupply date is July 2016. More Information...

To date there have been no cases of EVD in Canada, though there have been a number of persons under investigation.   • Hand Hygiene Adherence Survey from CNISP: The ICP/Epi Working Group of the Canadian Nosocomial Infection Surveillance Program (CNISP) is pleased to launch its on-line '2011 Survey of Practices Used for Measuring Hand Hygiene Adherence Among Canadian Acute Care Facilities'.  The purpose of this CNISP survey is to inform infection control professionals on practices used for measuring hand hygiene adherence in acute care facilities across Canada.  Any Canadian acute care hospital is eligible to participate in this survey.

  • Postponement of IP&C Conference from Accreditation Canada/ CSA: This event is experiencing lower than anticipated registration numbers. The organizers are mindful of this and are striving to ensure that the conference will be as successful as possible for everyone involved. As a result, the organizers have made a strategic decision to reschedule this IPC conference and align it with Accreditation Canada's annual Medical Device Reprocessing Forum. The IPC conference will be scheduled for October 6th and 7th, 2011 following the two day Medical Device Reprocessing Forum on October 4th and 5th.
